Why were several SecureWorld conferences rescheduled?
In light of new developments surrounding the rapid global spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we were forced to reschedule our spring 2020 conferences, which include Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, Cincinnati, Toronto, Kansas City, Atlanta, and Chicago.
We share the frustration of our attendees, speakers and vendors in having to adapt to circumstances that are beyond our control. It has become clear that we, along with other organizations in these cities, have an obligation to protect public health and safety of conference attendees. While this is obviously a disappointing and unexpected turn of events, we are resolved to continue with plans for conferences this year on a new set of dates.
As you may be aware, on March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, emphasizing the need for countries to take every precaution to diminish the spread of the virus and protect vulnerable populations. Additionally, states of emergency have been declared in 48 U.S. states and the province of Ontario. Government and health officials have urged residents and organizations to limit their public activity, including restrictions on certain types of gatherings.
Our decision to reschedule these events was made in accordance with local and state public health guidelines.
Needless to say, we are grateful to all of our attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and speakers for their flexibility and shared commitment to resume daily life as quickly as possible. We all share a responsibility to do our part in following health authority guidelines in limiting the spread of disease within our communities, and we urge everyone to continue adherence to advice from the WHO and CDC.
When will the SecureWorld conferences be rescheduled?
We are pleased to announce the following new event dates:
• SecureWorld Boston to be held July 15-16, 2020
• SecureWorld Philadelphia on August 26-27, 2020
• SecureWorld Chicago on August 13, 2020
• SecureWorld Atlanta: new dates to be announced by April 17, 2020
Unfortunately, other conferences which we were not able to reschedule this year have been postponed to 2021, with these confirmed dates:
• SecureWorld Houston on March 31, 2021
• SecureWorld Toronto, April 22, 2021
• SecureWorld Cincinnati, April 28, 2021
• SecureWorld Kansas City, May 6, 2021
Will attendees who cannot attend the rescheduled dates receive registration refunds?
Per our existing policy and agreements with venues, vendors, speakers and registrants, conference passes are nonrefundable. Registrants who are unable to attend the new dates will be allowed to transfer passes to colleagues or receive a credit to attend a future SecureWorld event. We understand this may cause difficulty or inconvenience and will do our best to ensure conference attendees are able to receive full value for their purchases. As this situation impacts us all, it is important that we do our part to resume normal activities as soon as possible and support the communities where we hold events through a health and economic recovery.
Will exhibitors/vendors scheduled to participate in these events receive refunds?
The conferences will be held as planned on a new set of dates when allowed by local health guidelines. All of our existing agreements remain in place and do not allow for refunds. We understand that that this is frustrating and may cause difficulty for some of our partners, and we are grateful for your shared flexibility in protecting public health and conference attendees. These circumstances are beyond our control and we are working diligently to confirm new dates with ample advance notice to our partners.
Why are you not offering a digital option for these conferences?
Relationship building and exhibitor spaces are an essential part of the SecureWorld conference experience. Our attendees come to learn, but also to network with peers and vendors from across the industry. In addition, these conferences are planned and designed around a physical space, with corresponding venue and exhibitor agreements already in place.
SecureWorld does offer a weekly podcast, ongoing web conferences, and a new series of daily online briefings called Remote Sessions. Find more information about these free resources at https://www.secureworldexpo.com/resources.
